PRODUCE FRESH and LASTING

Suggestion #1

How many times have you purchased fresh herbs only to then last a few days in your refrigerator before they wilt and become too nasty to enjoy?

I thoroughly enjoy fresh herbs and if not from my garden then I must resort to purchasing herbs from my local health food store or organic farmers market.
Here is the solution. - Be it cilantro, dill, parsley, basil or any other small green leafy source...

You will need clear class Mason jars.

Note: glass breaths and plastic does not and it can leach synthetic estrogen and does not breathe.

Place your fresh herbs in to these glass jars. Hint- you might need to snip a portion of the stems off to fit in the jar. Place the lid tightly on jar and store in vegetable bin. I have seen my herbs, especially dill, last as long as three weeks AND not wilt or get soft and soggy.

Suggestion #2

Myth: Unused portions of Avocados cannot be saved without turning color or adding lemon juice to freshen them. No!

Like the herbs, if you cut into a California or Florida avocado and need only about half, then scoop the remaining portion from the peel and store in a large short wide mouth jar. the larger size jar that Ghee, clarified butter, is sold in is most suitable.

Seal the jar tightly and store in vegetable bin. I have seen my avocadoe remain green for up to five or six days before they begin to change color.

Unbleached wax paper can be purchase at most health food markets or online.

Avocado Insight ~

Florida grown avocados are usually about twice the size as the California avocado. California avocado have a nutty creamy flavor yet the Florida avocados are much less costly and are much contain much lower calories than the California avocados.

Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats, avocados, contain a good source of vitamins C, E, K, folate, and fiber. They are high in nutrition PLUS, they make other foods more nutritious. Adding avocado to salads or other vegetables dishes can increase adequate absorption of nutrients from the vegetables. Great for digestion.
Suggestion #3

Unused portions of tomatoes can saved when either stored in a glass jar OR wrapped in unbleached wax paper. I usually place a soft rubber band around the tomato to hold the wax paper in place.

Bell peppers, cucumbers zucchini, eggplant and many other solid vegetables can also be stored safely when wrapped in unbleached wax paper. To keep wax paper secured on vegetable, wrap a rubber band around the outer edge.
