FINGER NAILS - SIGNS OF HEALTH PROBLEMS

VITAMINS & MINERALS Lacking -

Finger nails and Toe nail problems are triggered by vitamin / minerals deficiencies and mineral imbalances with each other.
Mineral deficiencies are caused by lack of minerals in foods, due to consistent consumption of processed and refined foods and or lack of minerals in the foods that are cooked at temperatures higher than 118 degrees.

VERTICAL RIDGES -

Vertical ridges that are evenly spaced over the entire nail, are common and harmless and generally associated with normal ageing and the nail's increasing. Similar to facial wrinkles vertical ridges / wrinkles for your nails.

CAUSES are inability to retain moisture, signify a vitamin and mineral deficiency, rheumatoid arthritis.

DON'T buff off the ridges. Instead, moisturize nails daily with a thick lotion (Vitamin E or petroleum jelly are great), paying particular attention to the cuticle.

HORIZONTAL RIDGES / Beau's Lines -

Horizontal ridges are more likely to signify a deeper issue - uncontrolled diabetes and peripheral vascular disease, mineral Zinc deficiency, illnesses associated with a high fever, such as scarlet fever, measles, mumps and pneumonia. Ridges occur on an ongoing basis -is a sign of a problem existing outside of the nail itself and can point to bigger problems like kidney, lung, or liver disease.

WHITE MARKS -

White marks are common and absolutely nothing to worry about. Little white marks stem from some kind of trauma to the nail. This could be anything from slamming your nail in the boot of the car to flicking a pen - or even chewing them when you're nervous. Rare cases, if the white mark stretches across your entire nail, it could mean you've been poisoned.

YELLOW NAILS -

Yellow nails are usually from an extensive use of nail polish or acrylic nails, smoking and or a normal sign of ageing .

Yellow Nails that are THICKER than usual, and crumbly, may signify a fungal infection.

CRACKING and EXTREME DRYNESS -

Causes are insufficient moisture on your nail plate, which may be caused from swimming, overuse of nail polish remover, frequent dish washing without gloves, or just from living in a low-humidity environment.

BLUISH FINGER NAILS -
Problem in circulation: sign of underlying Lung disease, lack of oxygen to the tissue, abnormal spasms of the blood vessels response to stress and cold - known as Raynaud's - a serious concern when nails don't return to normal color.
